    MMDB Community Update

We hope you have started the new year well! 🎉 At the beginning of the year, we would like to share some important tips on how to optimally prepare your artist profile in the MMDB – for better visibility, better matches, and better opportunities.

Why is a well-maintained profile so important?

The MMDB thrives on musicians finding each other. For this to work, the system requires structured information – not just free text.

    Currently, we often see:

    • Skills, instruments, or genres are only in the description text
    • The designated keyword fields (tag boxes) remain empty
    • Profiles contain very few details

This is unfortunate – because these structured fields are the basis for search, filter, and matching.

How to optimally use your profile

Please pay particular attention to the following points:

    • Skills, instruments, and genres should always be entered into the designated keyword fields (tag boxes) – not just in the free text
    • Upload a profile picture – profiles with images are clicked significantly more often
    • Fill out the description thoughtfully: Who are you? What do you do? What are you looking for?
    • Complete other fields such as services, collaboration interests, or availability if they apply

    Important to know

The automated features of the MMDB – e.g. the band member search and matching suggestions – work exclusively through the keyword fields. Content that is only in the free text cannot be considered in this process.

Upcoming features in the area of booking and opportunities will also be based on these structured entries.

In short: The more complete and structured your profile is, the better you will be found – and the better you will find others.

Here’s to a musical, connected, and successful new year! Alex & Ryan

  • The Heatmap – Trends, Terms, and Focus Areas at a Glance

✨ AI translation of the German original

    Munich Musicians Database

    MMDB Community Update

We have launched a new feature for you that helps you navigate the MMDB more quickly and search more effectively: the Heatmap.

    What does the Heatmap show?

The Heatmap shows how many musician or band/project profiles use certain terms – for example, genres, instruments, skills, or categories.

The larger a term is displayed, the more profiles exist in the MMDB that correspond to that term.

    Which areas can you analyze?

    • Artists: Genres, instruments, skills, and services from artist profiles
    • Bands/Projects: Genres and categories from band and project profiles

    How is it filtered?

You can also specify which profiles are counted, for example:

    • only bookable musicians or bands
    • only profiles with an interest in collaborations
    • for Bands/Projects: only those looking for members

The Heatmap adapts immediately and only shows terms from exactly those profiles.

What happens when clicking on a term?

Clicking on a term takes you directly to the results list with all the matching musician or band profiles that correspond to that term.

    Why is this useful?

    • You can find musicians with a specific genre or skill more quickly.
    • You discover bands or projects that exactly match your musical style.
    • You can easily see what is strongly represented in the community – and what is rarer.

In short: The Heatmap shows you how frequently certain musical terms actually occur in the MMDB – and takes you directly to the matching profiles with one click.

    Have fun exploring!
    Alex & Ryan

  • How does content moderation work in the MMDB?

✨ AI translation of the German original

    Munich Musicians Database

    MMDB Community Update

In this update, we will explain a feature that does a lot in the background for the safety and quality of the MMDB: Content Moderation.

Why do we need content moderation?

We want a platform that is open to all musicians, bands, and projects – but at the same time safe, free from abuse, reliable, fair, and consistent. To prevent problematic content from appearing (e.g., violence, hate, spam, bot accounts, fake profiles, or inappropriate images), new content is automatically checked.

This applies to profile texts, bio descriptions, images, band info, skills, genres, services, and much more. All submissions go through our checking system once to keep the MMDB a clean place for everyone.

How does it work – simply explained?

Quite simple: When you upload something or type it in, the content is automatically anonymized, and only the necessary information is checked. The system then checks whether the content:

    • is suitable for the platform,
    • fits music, performance, or your profile information,
    • is unproblematic for minors,
    • does not attack or demean individuals,
    • is not illegal, offensive, or dangerous.

If everything is fine, the content is immediately approved. If something looks unusual, it is marked and can be manually moderated by us. If something directly violates community standards, it is removed by the AI.

    Important: Everything is anonymized

Your content is not checked in association with your name, email address, or identity during the AI check. Only the pure text, the pure image, or the submission itself is evaluated – completely anonymously. The AI system does not see who the content comes from.

    Can errors happen?

Yes, of course. AI is good, but not perfect. Sometimes the system rates harmless content too strictly or confuses musical terms with something completely different. For example, just recently with dangerous weapons. 🤪

That’s why there is also always manual moderation, which can quickly correct such cases. And don’t worry: No one will be banned or rejected because of an error.

Moderation simply ensures that the MMDB remains a high-quality, serious, and safe platform – without disturbing your creative flow.

Thanks for participating! Alex & Ryan

  • Managing Bands & Projects – Here’s How It Really Works

✨ AI translation of the German original

    Munich Musicians Database

    MMDB Community Update

Many are already using this feature intensively – others have overlooked it so far: The Band and Project Management. Today we will explain to you in detail how everything works and how you can optimize your profiles so that you have perfect opportunities for collaboration requests or booking opportunities later on.

    What categories are there?

The band/project profile supports the following categories:

    • Band
    • Project
    • Live Show
    • Open Mic
    • Song Slam
    • Jam Session
    • Academy
    • Commercial Organization
    • Collective
    • Non-Profit Organization
    • Other

How do I create a new band or project?

There are two ways – both work differently:

Path A: Through your Artist Profile

    • Enter a name in the Bands/Projects field.
    • As you type, you will see <strong>Autocomplete suggestions for existing bands/projects.
    • If the name exists: → You automatically send a join request. → The band admin will approve you.
    • If the name is new: → A new band/project is created immediately (with prefix NEW:). → You automatically become the band admin. → After saving, you will be immediately redirected to the new band/project profile.

Path B: Through the Band/Project Manager

    • Go to Bands/Projects in the main menu.
    • Click on “Create New Band/Project”.
    • The profile will be created immediately.
    • You are automatically the admin of the new entry.

No matter which path you use: As soon as you enter a name, the same Autocomplete with all matching bands/projects will always appear.

Get your band and project profiles in shape!

Profiles will become increasingly important in the future, e.g. for applications for booking or collaboration opportunities in a future version of the MMDB. Therefore, make sure to fill in all fields:

    • Image
    • Description
    • Genre
    • Teaser
    • Audio Links (Spotify, Apple Music, Bandcamp, SoundCloud)
    • Social Media Links
    • Contact Options (depending on public/private settings)

The cleaner your profiles are maintained, the more the entire community benefits – and the better you stand in booking inquiries.

    Rock on,
    Alex & Ryan

  • MMDB IS LIVE! Find your next band, project or member

    Munich Musicians Database

    MMDB Community Update

Last Monday we officially declared the service open and are happy to see that the user base is growing. We are now already hosting 61 Musicians and 43 Bands/Projects from the community. So go out and spread the word motivating others to join!

Find your next band/project or member!

    New feature
Suggestions – find matches in a few clicks

Since today there is a new and exciting feature: Suggestions.

Have you ever been in the situation where you suddenly needed a new bass player? Or you are a singer looking out for a band or project to join? With just a few clicks you’ll be getting Suggestions in the Bands/Projects Manager.

    Here’s how it works:

    Band/Project looking for members:

    • In the band profile you created, set Looking for members to yes.
    • Pick existing instruments or skills you’re looking for from the database.
    • Press Save.

    Musician looking to join Bands/Projects:

    • Fill out your profile with your skills and instruments.
    • Navigate to Bands/Profiles.
    • If there are any Bands/Projects looking for people with your skills or instruments, you’ll find it here.
    • You’ll see if the genre of the band or project matches one or more of your favored genres.
    • Get in touch directly from the suggestion or dismiss the suggestion if it’s not for you.
    • And the best thing: You can subscribe to a mailing list that will send you new suggestions, if there are any, on a daily basis.

Finding new band mates has never been so easy! And always remember: The more people we gather in the database, the higher the chances!

    Have fun, Alex & Ryan
