In this update, we will explain a feature that does a lot in the background for the safety and quality of the MMDB: Content Moderation.
Why do we need content moderation?
We want a platform that is open to all musicians, bands, and projects – but at the same time safe, free from abuse, reliable, fair, and consistent. To prevent problematic content from appearing (e.g., violence, hate, spam, bot accounts, fake profiles, or inappropriate images), new content is automatically checked.
This applies to profile texts, bio descriptions, images, band info, skills, genres, services, and much more. All submissions go through our checking system once to keep the MMDB a clean place for everyone.
How does it work – simply explained?
Quite simple: When you upload something or type it in, the content is automatically anonymized, and only the necessary information is checked. The system then checks whether the content:
- is suitable for the platform,
- fits music, performance, or your profile information,
- is unproblematic for minors,
- does not attack or demean individuals,
- is not illegal, offensive, or dangerous.
If everything is fine, the content is immediately approved. If something looks unusual, it is marked and can be manually moderated by us. If something directly violates community standards, it is removed by the AI.
Important: Everything is anonymized
Your content is not checked in association with your name, email address, or identity during the AI check. Only the pure text, the pure image, or the submission itself is evaluated – completely anonymously. The AI system does not see who the content comes from.
Can errors happen?
Yes, of course. AI is good, but not perfect. Sometimes the system rates harmless content too strictly or confuses musical terms with something completely different. For example, just recently with dangerous weapons. 🤪
That’s why there is also always manual moderation, which can quickly correct such cases. And don’t worry: No one will be banned or rejected because of an error.
Moderation simply ensures that the MMDB remains a high-quality, serious, and safe platform – without disturbing your creative flow.
